MANSFIELD, La. – A high-speed chase through DeSoto Parish ended in a crash and the arrest of a Texas shooting suspect just before noon today, according to DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson.
A DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy stationed at the intersection of Highway 84 and Thomas Road observed a white Buick Enclave traveling at a high rate of speed. When the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply and accelerated eastbound toward Mansfield.
The suspect continued through the city via Washington Avenue before reaching a dead end on North Washington Street, near the DeSoto Parish 911 Communications District and the Sheriff’s Office. In a sharp curve, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a deep ravine and rolling the vehicle in the process.
Deputies apprehended the driver, later identified as Colby Callaway, 31, of Nacogdoches, Texas, without further incident. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Shreveport for treatment of mild to moderate injuries.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm and narcotics. Authorities believe Callaway was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the pursuit.
Dispatchers later confirmed that Callaway was wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Nacogdoches County, Texas, which occurred earlier in the day.
Following his medical treatment, Callaway will be booked into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center on the following charges:
• Aggravated Flight from an Officer
• Possession of Schedule I with Intent to Distribute
• Possession of Schedule II with Intent to Distribute
• Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Additional charges are expected in both DeSoto Parish and Nacogdoches County. A booking photo will be released upon processing.
