Shreveport, LA – Jerry Jackson, 57, has been sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years following his conviction in a retrial for the 2016 killings of his stepson and a neighbor.

The sentencing, handed down by Caddo District Judge Erin Leigh Waddell Garrett on Monday, February 24, 2025, mandates Jackson serve a life term at hard labor for second-degree murder and an additional 40 years for manslaughter, with both sentences to run consecutively.
Jackson was originally convicted in 2019 for the fatal shootings of Kendrick Brown, his stepson, and Michael Dillard, a neighbor, outside his wife Rhonda Brown’s Bond Drive residence. However, his case was retried due to the 2020 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Ramos v. Louisiana, which requires unanimous jury verdicts in criminal trials.

On July 20, 2016, Jackson shot both men before attempting to conceal the .22 caliber rifle used in the crime by giving it to a friend. The friend reported the weapon to authorities, leading to its recovery and forensic confirmation linking it to shell casings at the crime scene. Eyewitness testimony from Rhonda Brown and a neighbor further implicated Jackson in the killings.
Prosecutors Bill Edwards and Kodie Smith represented the state, while Jackson was defended by attorney Sean Landry.
The case was filed under docket No. 406516.
