Shreveport, LA – A World War II-era hand grenade was safely removed and disposed of Tuesday after being discovered in a storage building in Shreveport.
At approximately 12:23 p.m. on February 4, 2025, the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) Bomb Squad responded to a report of a possible explosive device in the 200 block of Aero Drive. A concerned citizen found the grenade while cleaning out the storage area and immediately contacted authorities.
After analyzing the device, SFD Bomb Technicians confirmed it was a WWII-era hand grenade.
Due to the potential risk, the team requested assistance from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists at Barksdale Air Force Base (BAFB). The grenade was safely removed and later rendered safe at an off-site location under the supervision of both SFD and BAFB personnel.

Authorities have not determined how long the grenade had been stored or its origin. Officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The Shreveport Fire Department extended its gratitude to the Shreveport Police Department, DART, and BAFB EOD personnel for their assistance.
Officials also used the incident as a reminder to the public: if you encounter a suspicious or potentially dangerous object, do not touch or attempt to move it. Instead, immediately report it to the proper authorities.
“If you see something, say something.”
