SHREVEPORT, La — A Texas woman has been found guilty of motor vehicle theft after refusing to return a car loaned to her by a coworker. Roneisha Shacole Hogan, 27, of Irving, Texas, was convicted on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Caddo District Court following a brief deliberation by the jury.
The case, presided over by District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr., saw the jury—comprising four men and two women—deliberate for just 40 minutes before delivering a guilty verdict. Hogan was sentenced to five years of hard labor, which was suspended. Instead, she will serve three years of supervised probation and must complete 240 hours of community service.

The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorneys Stephen Folk-Cruthirds and Jason Waltman, presented evidence showing that Hogan had borrowed the car from a coworker under the promise of returning it within three days. When Hogan failed to do so after a week, the coworker reported the vehicle as stolen. Five months later, Hogan was apprehended in Dallas, Texas, still in possession of the vehicle.
Hogan was defended by attorneys Katie Ferguson and Evan McMichael. The case was filed under docket number 398271.
