Shreveport, LA – A late-night vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on July 25, 2025, has left a woman deceased and police investigating the tragic circumstances.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Shreveport Police responded to the intersection of Jewella Avenue and Sumner Street following reports of a serious crash. When officers arrived, they discovered 42-year-old Paula Garcia had been struck by a vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office took over the death investigation and notified her family.

According to preliminary findings, Angela Brooks was driving a 2007 Chevrolet HHR southbound on Jewella Avenue and had stopped at a red light at Jackson Street. When the light turned green and the vehicle proceeded forward, it struck Garcia, who witnesses say was running across the street.

Garcia was reportedly wearing dark clothing at the time, which may have made her less visible to drivers. Brooks remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, voluntarily submitting to a chemical test. Police do not suspect impairment at this time.

The Shreveport Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit continues to examine the incident.

Authorities urge the public to remain alert—whether walking or driving—and to follow all safety laws to prevent similar tragedies.
