SHREVEPORT, La —- The Shreveport community is currently abuzz with concerns about on-duty police officers being redirected from their street duties to cover security positions at local SPAR swimming pools.

In response to these concerns, Love Shreveport-Bossier Media contacted the Shreveport Police Department’s Public Information Officer, Chris Bordelon, to clarify whether these officers were on-duty or off-duty and to determine if this practice was a new development.
PIO Bordelon explained that having a police presence at local swimming pools and recreation facilities is not a new practice.
According to Bordelon, these security roles are typically filled by off-duty volunteer officers. However, when there are no volunteers available, on-duty officers are sometimes rotated into these positions for a few hours at a time.

Bordelon further clarified that there is no specific department from which these officers are reassigned. Officers assigned to pool security can come from various roles, including desk officers, etc.
The Shreveport Police Department has reassured the public that this procedure poses no risk to public safety and emphasized that it has been in place for years.
