Shreveport, La — Residents of Southern Oaks Apartments woke up Tuesday morning expecting running water at 6 a.m., but many found their taps dry.
The city had previously announced a new policy allowing water to be restored daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. following service disconnections due to nonpayment.
However, by 7:00 a.m., water had yet to be turned back on at the complex.
The water shutoffs began the previous evening after the property owners reportedly failed to act within a 10-day grace period.
Under the city’s updated 30-day policy, water service would be temporarily restored during designated hours, allowing residents to handle essential tasks such as cooking, bathing, and preparing for work and school.
Many Southern Oaks residents, including families with children, were left scrambling Tuesday morning.
One frustrated resident expressed their concerns, saying, “They lied because the water is not on from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Plenty of us woke up to get our kids ready for school with no water. It’s 6:28 a.m., and there’s still no water this morning! Most of us can’t move out until the 1st when our new apartments are ready.”
As of the first morning under the new policy, residents say the city has failed to uphold its commitment, leaving them without a basic necessity.
