SHREVEPORT, La. — A Shreveport woman who drove nearly 10 miles in the wrong direction on Interstate 49 while intoxicated, injuring multiple people and endangering her 3-year-old child, pleaded guilty to several charges in Caddo District Court on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Georgette Riley, 27, admitted guilt just before jury selection was set to begin in her trial. District Judge Chris Victory sentenced her to the maximum penalties for cruelty to juveniles and two counts of first-degree negligent injuring. Riley received 10 years of hard labor for the cruelty charge and two consecutive five-year terms for the negligent injuring charges, which will run concurrently with the cruelty sentence.
The incident occurred on November 6, 2022, when Riley drove southbound in the northbound lanes of I-49 at speeds exceeding 100 mph, causing a four-vehicle crash. Two hours before the crash, Riley had been livestreaming herself drinking port and tequila on Facebook. Afterward, she got behind the wheel with her 3-year-old child improperly restrained in the vehicle. Following the collision, the child was discovered unconscious in the trunk, while the drivers of two other vehicles suffered serious injuries. Blood tests revealed Riley’s blood alcohol content was .322, four times the legal limit.

Assistant District Attorney Courtney N. Ray prosecuted the case, while Eric Johnson served as Riley’s defense attorney.
The case was filed under docket No. 394053.
