SHREVEPORT, La. – A Shreveport woman has been arrested on multiple counts of child desertion following an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Youth Services Bureau.

On February 15, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 5500 block of Virginia Avenue after a concerned family member reported being unable to reach Leanisha Broom and expressed concern for the welfare of her five young children.
Detectives determined that Broom had not been at work for two days and had not stayed at the residence with her children since February 13.
The eldest child, a six-year-old, told officers that Broom had briefly stopped by that morning to drop off a McDonald’s breakfast biscuit before leaving again for work.
Further investigation revealed that Broom had an active bench warrant for three counts of child desertion from 2023 and an additional count from 2021. U.S. Marshals had attempted to execute the warrant on February 13, but Broom had not returned to care for her children since that time.
Child Protective Services (CPS) was notified and determined that the children—ages 6, 4, 3, 1, and 5 months—would remain in the custody of a family member while the case is reviewed.
On February 17, 2025, authorities located and arrested Broom on her outstanding warrants. She now faces five additional counts of child desertion for leaving her children home alone.
The Shreveport Police Department emphasized its commitment to protecting children and ensuring their safety in the community.
