Shreveport, LA — A woman has been arrested after police discovered her children living in severe neglect at a home on Valley Ridge Road. The arrest occurred late on the night of September 21, 2024, following a welfare check by the Shreveport Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to 3016 Valley Ridge Road around 11:46 PM after receiving concerns about the welfare of a 13-year-old child. Upon arrival, they spoke with the juvenile, who reported that she could no longer endure the poor living conditions in the home. The child revealed that she often went without food for days and that her mother was frequently absent.

Inside the residence, police found extremely unsanitary conditions, including a severe bug infestation, a lack of food, no electricity, and no functional appliances. Further investigation revealed that the mother, Lasonya Wilson, had allegedly been using narcotics in the presence of her three children.
Wilson was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including:
- One count of cruelty to a juvenile
- Three counts of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) use in the presence of a juvenile
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith urged the public to remain vigilant in identifying and reporting child abuse. “We must look out for those who cannot look out for themselves. If you see or suspect children in dangerous or harmful situations, please report it to the authorities immediately,” he stated.
The Shreveport Police Department continues to encourage citizens to be proactive in protecting vulnerable members of the community.
