SHREVEPORT, LA – In the early hours of Thursday, June 20, 2024, a Shreveport Police Officer reported a serious incident involving a pedestrian on the east-side of the Cedar Grove community.

At approximately 1:02 a.m., the SPD officer called for Shreveport Fire Department medics to respond to the intersection of Line Avenue and E. 70th Street after striking a male pedestrian with his patrol vehicle.
The Shreveport Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to Ochsner LSU Hospital, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

An SPD officer on the scene provided further details to Love Shreveport-Bossier and Louisiana Breaking News, stating that the incident occurred while the officer was traveling eastbound on E. 70th Street. Construction workers in the area were cutting concrete, creating a significant amount of dust, which may have impaired visibility.
Initial reports suggest that the officer had a green light as he proceeded through the intersection. However, a pedestrian was crossing E. 70th Street at the same time. The officer reportedly did not see the man until it was too late to avoid the collision.

After striking the pedestrian, the officer immediately turned his white patrol car around to provide aid until medics arrived.
The investigation into the accident is still in its early stages, and authorities caution that information may change as more details emerge.

The Shreveport Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
