Shreveport, La — A Shreveport man convicted in June of a brutal drug-related killing will spend the rest of his life behind bars — plus an additional decade — after a judge sentenced him for both murder and violating probation from a previous violent crime.
Lloyd Tremaine Cooks, 22, was found guilty of second-degree murder on June 11, 2025, for the June 25, 2022, killing of 31-year-old Jeremy “Ruru” Wyatt. Prosecutors said Cooks and Wyatt met at a local gas station for a marijuana transaction that escalated into murder.
On Monday, August 11, 2025, District Judge Chris Victory sentenced Cooks to life in prison at hard labor without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. He also imposed an additional 10-year term after revoking Cooks’ probation from a prior conviction.
Cooks had previously been convicted on June 1, 2022, of aggravated battery for the October 27, 2020, shooting of Malcolm Simmons. That conviction, in case No. 379968, originally stemmed from an attempted second-degree murder charge.
Assistant District Attorneys Victoria Washington and Courtney Ray prosecuted the murder case, docket No. 390646. Cooks was represented by Michael Enright and Katie Miller.
