SHREVEPORT, La. – A Shreveport man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2022 killing of a convenience store clerk.

A Caddo Parish jury convicted Damion Sherfield, 23, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, following a trial in District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr.’s courtroom.
The six-woman, six-man jury deliberated for less than two hours before delivering a unanimous verdict.

Sherfield was convicted in the February 15, 2022, shooting death of Roderick Walker, 29, at the Village Food Store in the 5300 block of Jewella Avenue.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Sherfield spoke with the store manager before confronting Walker as he exited the store. Sherfield then pulled out a firearm and fired three shots, striking Walker once in the chest. Sherfield fled the scene and remained at large for two days before surrendering to authorities. Walker was transported to Ochsner LSU Health, where he later died from his injuries.

During the trial, the prosecution called nine witnesses to establish Sherfield’s guilt. The defense, in an effort to claim self-defense or provocation, called Sherfield’s mother—who was waiting in a car outside—and Sherfield himself. However, the jury rejected those arguments.
Sherfield is scheduled for sentencing on April 9.
Under Louisiana law, a second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Christopher Bowman and Jason Waltman. Sherfield was defended by Katie Ferguson and Madison Crusan.
Case number: 387699.
