A 37-year-old Shreveport man, John Russ, was arrested following a violent domestic assault that took place in the early hours of May 4, 2024. Shreveport Police responded to the incident just after midnight, where they discovered that Russ had physically assaulted a woman in the presence of two children, both under the age of 13.

According to police reports, Russ allegedly grabbed the woman by the head, pushed her into the corner of a dresser, and strangled her until she lost consciousness, all in the presence of two children under the age of 13 years-old. The victim was later treated for her injuries at a local hospital.
Further investigation revealed that Russ had violated an active protective order, which prohibited him from contacting the victim. Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit acted swiftly, obtaining warrants that charged Russ with several offenses, including Domestic Abuse Battery with Strangulation, Domestic Abuse Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, Violation of a Protective Order, and two counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment.

After months of investigation, authorities arrested Russ on October 4, 2024. He now faces multiple serious charges related to the incident. He was booked into Caddo Correction Center (CCC) on a $125,000 Bond, which he has already posted bail.
The Shreveport Police Department reminds the public that help is available for victims of domestic violence. They encourage anyone in need of assistance to seek out local resources and support, emphasizing that “love should not hurt.”
