BOSSIER CITY, La — Shoppers at Pierre Bossier Mall in Bossier City, Louisiana are now faced with an empty food court after Mandarin Express, the mall’s last remaining food vendor, officially closed its doors in September. The closure of the popular Asian food chain has left a noticeable gap in dining options for mall-goers, marking the end of an era for the once bustling food court.
Mandarin Express had long been a go-to choice for shoppers seeking quick, flavorful Chinese cuisine. However, customers report that the restaurant quietly closed last month, leaving the mall with no other food establishments.

“It’s sad to see. We used to stop by here for a bite every time we came to shop,” said a frequent shopper. “Now, there’s no reason to stay longer at the mall.”
This isn’t the first Mandarin Express location to shut down. Earlier this year, the Athens, Georgia location at Georgia Square Mall closed after 30 years of service, signaling broader challenges for the food chain, particularly in malls that have seen decreased foot traffic.
With the loss of Mandarin Express, Pierre Bossier Mall is now left without any food options for shoppers, raising questions about what could replace it and whether the mall can attract new vendors to fill the void.
Mall management has yet to announce any plans for new dining options, but customers hope that changes are on the horizon. For now, the once lively food court stands silent, reflecting broader shifts in the retail and food service industries, where competition from online shopping and stand-alone restaurants has taken a toll on mall-based eateries.
