The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that work on the new Jimmie Davis Bridge (LA 511) over the Red River, spanning Bossier and Caddo Parishes, is progressing as scheduled.

The temporary trestle bridge has been completed and is currently being used to position construction equipment for the project.
The contractor is actively driving piles for the foundation of the new bridge, which will replace the existing 2-lane structure with a future 4-lane bridge. This upgrade will significantly increase the capacity of the river crossing, which currently accommodates approximately 30,000 vehicles daily.

The new bridge will serve to better connect the growing communities of south Bossier City and Shreveport.
In addition, over the next six months, drivers can expect intermittent closures on the Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport and the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway in Bossier City, near the Jimmie Davis Bridge interchanges.
These short, 15-minute closures will occur during non-peak travel hours to allow for the safe movement of construction equipment, with minimal impact to traffic.

The new bridge project also includes the reconstruction of roadway approaches on LA 511 to improve traffic flow and safety, particularly on the Bossier City side.
The bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in early 2027, with progress contingent on weather conditions and other construction factors.
