Shreveport, La — The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the off-duty Shreveport police officer who died in a tragic car accident in west Shreveport on Friday afternoon.
Officer Matthew Rhoden, 37, was fatally injured in the crash, which occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on September 27, 2024, at the intersection of West 70th Street and Broadacres Road. Authorities reported that a van unexpectedly turned into Rhoden’s path, leading to a collision. His vehicle then veered off the roadway, overturned, and struck a vacant house.
Rhoden was identified using fingerprint analysis, and an autopsy has been ordered. The Shreveport Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the wreck.
