SHREVEPORT, La — On August 16, 2024, members of the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Abatement Team (VCAT) were contacted by a complainant who reported an incident involving Derion Kelly, a 22-year-old male.

The complainant stated that Kelly met him in the Shreveport Police Department’s parking lot and exchanged a firearm for a cashier’s check.
When the complainant attempted to cash the check, they discovered it was forged.
On August 20, 2024, officers attempted to contact Kelly in the parking lot of the Shreveport Police Department.

As Kelly entered the parking lot, VCAT officers and a Shreveport City Marshal’s Deputy approached him. Kelly fled the scene, colliding with a Shreveport City Marshal’s vehicle in the process.
VCAT officers pursued Kelly’s Ford Mustang, which later collided with a parked vehicle and a residence on Logan Street.
Kelly attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by a VCAT member.

- Theft of a Vehicle
- Forgery
- Issuing Worthless Checks
- Aggravated Flight
- Aggravated Criminal Property Damage
