Bossier City, LA – Construction on the new Jimmie Davis Bridge is pressing forward, with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announcing steady progress on the LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Highway) approaches and Red River bridge foundations.

As part of the ongoing work, motorists should expect intermittent closures of the northbound or southbound entrances to Medical Drive over the next two months. These closures are necessary to allow crews to install piping for the widening and realignment of LA 511.
The new four-lane bridge is being constructed just north of the existing two-lane structure and will include redesigned on and off-ramps. Heavy dirt work is currently underway to shape those future access points.
Additional Phase 1 work includes installing raised medians on LA 511, modifying the median barrier along Arthur Ray Teague Parkway, and building new median openings for U-turns in future phases.
Alternating lane closures will occur along the LA 511 approaches as needed for construction safety. DOTD urges drivers to remain alert and follow posted signage.
The full bridge replacement project is expected to be completed by mid-to-late 2027, pending weather and construction conditions.
