SHREVEPORT, La — On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2024, just after noon, Keyonte Willis became an unexpected Love Shreveport-Bossier Community Hero on Clyde Fant Parkway.

While traveling on his motorcycle, Keyonte noticed a smoking car on the opposite side of the roadway. Without hesitation, he turned around in the median and sped back to investigate.

Initially thinking it was just an overheated vehicle, Keyonte Willis approached the car and noticed the door was slightly open. Alarmed, he quickly opened the door and found an elderly man slumped over the middle armrest, still strapped in his seatbelt.
Realizing the urgency as flames and sparks began to engulf the front of the car, Keyonte Willis knew he had to act fast.

Despite the risk of injuring the man further, Keyonte Willis swiftly unbuckled him and pulled him to safety, laying him on the roadway away from the burning vehicle.
Using his motorcycle, Keyonte Willis then blocked off the road to protect the elderly man. Soon after, other motorists arrived and helped move the man to the grassy median, far from the danger.
The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 12:14 pm, according to 911 records.
In recognition of his bravery, Shreveport Fire Chief Reese has reached out to Love Shreveport-Bossier to obtain Keyonte’s information.
Keyonte will be honored with a “Fire Chief Commendation” award at an upcoming Shreveport City Council Meeting.
