LOUISIANA – In February 2024, the Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA was alerted to a growing public safety issue involving the use of off-road vehicles, specifically All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), on highways and roadways in New Orleans.
Individuals involved in these activities showed a blatant disregard for public safety and consistently violated multiple statutes, creating an atmosphere of lawlessness. These activities were often linked to other crimes throughout the city.
In response to this threat, Troop NOLA Troopers were tasked with suppressing these criminal acts to enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for New Orleans residents.
The Troopers’ investigation uncovered videos posted on YouTube and other social media sites under the title “SUNDAY FUNDAY.” These videos showed ATV riders blatantly violating numerous laws and endangering public safety.
Through their investigative efforts, Troopers determined that these crimes were committed in May 2023 within New Orleans. The video footage led to the identification of three primary suspects. Following this identification, Troopers secured arrest and search warrants for residences in St. Bernard Parish, St. James Parish, and East Baton Rouge Parish, executing the warrants on May 20, 2024.
During the searches, detectives discovered significant evidence linking the suspects to the criminal activities, including five ATVs. They also found multiple firearms, which are undergoing testing as part of the ongoing investigation. The three identified suspects were arrested and booked into the St. James Parish jail.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of Tureaud Jr., Holmes Jr., and Campo, who were booked accordingly into the St. James Parish jail on the following charges:
· Tureaud Jr.
o Aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce (12 Felony Counts)
o Criminal conspiracy (12 Felony Counts)
o Reckless operation of an off-road vehicle (12 Counts)
o Unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity (2 Counts)
· Holmes Jr.
o Aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce (4 Felony Counts)
o Criminal conspiracy (1 Felony Count)
o Reckless operation of an off-road vehicle (4 Counts)
o Possession of stolen property over $1,000 (1 Felony Count)
· Campo
o Aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce (7 Felony Counts)
o Criminal conspiracy (1 Felony Count)
o Reckless operation of an off-road vehicle (7 Counts)
This successful operation resulted from collaboration between multiple Louisiana State Police divisions, including LSP Troop NOLA, the LSP Fugitive Apprehension Unit, the LSP Bureau of Investigations, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
This case remains under investigation as Troopers work to identify additional suspects. Additional charges on these individuals, as well as additional arrests, are possible. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact LSP Detectives. Information can be reported anonymously through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system by visiting File a Report or calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.
There is now speculation about whether similar operations are being conducted in other parishes in Louisiana, given the increasing trend of off-road vehicles being illegally driven on roadways and highways. Daily uploads of street takeover videos for drag racing are further fueling these concerns.
