On Saturday, September 21st, law enforcement agencies in Bossier City teamed up to conduct a sobriety checkpoint aimed at improving road safety. Deputies from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G, and officers from the Bossier City Police Department joined forces for the checkpoint, which took place in the 5800 block of Shed Road.
During the operation, 571 vehicles were screened, resulting in five citations for various violations. Fourteen field sobriety tests were administered, though none led to a DWI arrest. However, one individual was arrested for drug possession.

Sheriff Julian Whittington emphasized the importance of these checkpoints in raising public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. “These checkpoints are meticulously planned to remove impaired drivers from the roads, making it safer for everyone,” he said. Sheriff Whittington noted that no arrests for impairment during the checkpoint reflected positively on public awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The public is encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers at any time by calling 911 or the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-2203.
