LOUISIANA — Governor Jeff Landry has issued an executive order banning the use of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in Louisiana’s K-12 public education system.
The governor’s office announced the move on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024 framing it as a necessary step to refocus education on what Landry described as core American values.

The order, according to the governor, aims to eliminate what he considers “divisive teachings” that encourage students to view life primarily through the lens of race and victimhood.
“Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in the State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual,” stated the announcement.

Governor Landry expressed that the order would provide much-needed reassurance for parents and students as the new school year begins. “Teaching children that they are currently or destined to be oppressed or to be an oppressor based on their race and origin is wrong and has no place in our Louisiana classrooms,” Landry said. He added that he is confident in the continued leadership of Dr. Brumley to steer the education system toward prioritizing “American values and common-sense teachings.”
