I bet you didn’t know that when you are calling them on their personal phone about work can make everything in their phone discoverable in court cases and subject to public records requests. Do you want the text messages that you’ve sent them read in open court or better yet released in a public records request? Probably not.
Employees have been woken up after a long shift, had vacations interrupted, received calls in the doctor’s office by residents wanting something from the police department. We’ve had officers called while home cooking supper, while they’re at home sick. Personally, I’ve answered these calls while reeling in a fish and at two of my families three Walt Disney World Trips. Our employees need a work/life balance too. Not to mention, we’re not paying them during their “OFF” hours. We have officers on duty 24/7 that can help you out.
We probably won’t call you during your off hours expecting you to go to work at your job for us. Please, show us the same respect. There’s a 24/7 non-emergency number and a 24/7 emergency response number.”
