Shreveport, LA – Emergency crews responded to a gas line leak and fire beneath a downtown Shreveport bridge early Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at approximately 12:07AM, the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of N. Market St. for what was initially reported as a minor grass fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the blaze was fueled by an active gas line leak beneath the bridge.
In addition to the fire, crews encountered a downed power line. The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) and Swepco were already on the scene securing the area. CenterPoint Energy was immediately notified, and their technicians arrived promptly to assess and contain the gas leak.
Multiple agencies, including the Louisiana State Police, the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and the local Water & Sewer Department, assisted in the response efforts.
Fire crews remained on-site for approximately three hours to monitor the situation and ensure public safety.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the gas line leak remains under investigation.
DOTD will provide an update once the bridge is deemed safe for reopening.
