SHREVEPORT, La. – A fugitive wanted for a 2017 homicide in Shreveport has been apprehended in Texas after nearly eight years on the run.

Shreveport Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a shooting on April 27, 2017, in the 7400 block of Line Avenue, where they found 29-year-old Randy Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Taylor was transported to Ochsner LSU Health but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following an extensive investigation, SPD Violent Crimes detectives identified Keithon Lovelace, now 42, as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Lovelace on one count of second-degree murder, but efforts to locate him proved unsuccessful. Over the years, authorities suspected Lovelace had fled the Shreveport area, making his capture more challenging.
Recently, SPD detectives received a tip that Lovelace was living under an alias in Panola County, Texas. Local authorities arrested him on narcotics-related charges under a false name, but further investigation revealed his true identity. Once confirmed, his outstanding murder warrant was executed.
Lovelace has since been extradited to Caddo Parish, where he now faces charges for the 2017 homicide.
The Shreveport Police Department commended the dedication of its Violent Crimes detectives and the collaboration of law enforcement agencies in ensuring Lovelace was brought to justice.
