Shreveport, LA – A domestic dispute turned violent late Saturday night leaving a woman with a gunshot wound and prompting an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit.

The incident occurred on January 4, 2025, just before midnight, at a residence in the 500 block of Sassafras Street. Officers were alerted when an adult female victim arrived at LSU Ochsner Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg.
Detectives spoke with the victim, who confirmed that her father had shot her but provided few details about the events leading up to the shooting.
The father was taken to the detectives’ office for questioning, where he stated that he acted in self-defense. According to his account, the daughter had threatened to kill him and moved toward her vehicle’s trunk, where he believed she was retrieving a weapon.
Investigators recovered a handgun from the victim’s belongings at the scene. Several witnesses were interviewed, and their statements supported the father’s version of events. Based on the evidence, no charges have been filed at this time, and the father was released following the investigation.
The Shreveport Police Department emphasized the dangers of resorting to violence during domestic disputes and urged individuals to seek help in managing conflicts. “Firearms should never be used in arguments, as such actions can result in tragic and unnecessary outcomes,” a spokesperson said.
For those facing domestic violence or conflict, resources are available to prevent situations from escalating. Authorities encourage individuals to reach out for support before violence occurs.
