GLOSTER, La — On Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at approximately 7:30AM, emergency services were dispatched to a serious accident in the 6000 block of HWY 5 in Gloster, Louisiana.

Responding units included personnel from DeSoto Parish Fire District #2 , DeSoto Parish EMS, and the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered an SUV that had veered off the roadway and rolled over at least once.

Inside the vehicle were three occupants, including twin children who were not properly restrained at the time of the crash. The children sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident.

Emergency medical technicians quickly assessed the situation and transported the injured children to a nearby emergency room for further evaluation and treatment. The identity of the adult driver has not been released, and the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed at this time.

The incident has prompted local authorities to issue a reminder about the critical importance of proper child restraint use in vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car crashes are a leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 13. Proper use of child restraints can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of an accident.

“Parents and guardians must always use appropriate child safety seats and seat belts to protect their children. It’s not just a legal requirement; it’s a matter of life and death.” said a spokesperson with Love Shreveport-Bossier

In Louisiana, the law requires that children under the age of two be secured in a rear-facing car seat, while older children must be appropriately restrained according to their age, weight, and height. Despite these regulations, many children are still placed at unnecessary risk due to improper or inadequate restraint use.

As the investigation into the cause of this morning’s crash continues, authorities are urging all drivers to take extra precautions, especially when traveling with children. Ensuring that child passengers are correctly restrained can prevent similar incidents from resulting in more severe outcomes.

The community of Gloster remains hopeful for the full recovery of the injured individuals and extends its support to the affected family. This accident serves as a sobering reminder of the critical role that proper child restraints play in safeguarding young lives on the road.
