The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced plans to close the urban section of I-49 in Shreveport as a precautionary safety measure in anticipation of forecasted winter weather.

The closure will begin on Thursday, January 9th, following the conclusion of the morning rush hour. It will affect the stretch of I-49 from Bert Kouns Industrial Loop to I-20.
“Once the closure is initiated, we will send an alert,” said Erin Buchanan, Public Information Officer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
DOTD urges drivers to plan alternate routes and stay updated on road conditions during this time. The agency emphasizes that this proactive measure is being taken to prioritize the safety of motorists as hazardous weather conditions are expected.
