Shreveport, LA – A convicted felon led police on a dangerous pursuit early Friday morning after attempting to flee a routine traffic stop, according to the Shreveport Police Department.
At approximately 12:36 AM on January 17, 2025, SPD officers pulled over a white sedan traveling southbound on Fairfield Avenue after it crossed into the opposing lane of a two-lane divided roadway. The vehicle eventually came to a stop near East 67th Street and Fairfield Avenue, where officers identified the driver as William Scriber Jr.

During the stop, Scriber admitted to striking multiple vehicles while leaving an apartment complex. Officers observed extensive damage on the passenger side of the sedan and asked him to retrieve his insurance and registration. Instead, Scriber locked the doors and sped away, initiating a high-speed chase through residential streets.
The pursuit escalated as Scriber disregarded a stop sign at Southern Avenue, veered off the road, and continued south on Dillman Avenue before heading into oncoming traffic on East 70th Street. The chase ended when he stopped near West 70th Street and St. Vincent Avenue.
Officers restrained Scriber after an initial struggle and discovered a pipe commonly used for narcotics inside the vehicle. Due to minor injuries sustained during the incident, Shreveport Fire Department personnel were dispatched to assess his condition.
Scriber, a convicted felon previously found guilty of vehicular homicide in 2023, was transported to the Shreveport City Jail and charged with:
• Aggravated Flight from an Officer
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Multiple Traffic Violations
The Shreveport Police Department emphasized the dangers of fleeing law enforcement and reaffirmed its commitment to public safety.
