BOSSIER CITY, La – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is marking one year of construction on the $121.7 million I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City.
The project, which began on September 18, 2023, involves a comprehensive rebuild of a section of I-20 from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.

Progress has been steady, with the removal of existing travel lanes completed and substantial portions of the roadway replaced with new base and concrete. This is the first major upgrade since the interstate’s original construction in the late 1960s.
The project also includes a complete overhaul of two interchanges. The Old Minden Road (LA 72) ramps have new paving and are expected to reopen in mid-October 2024. The Industrial Drive (LA 782-2) interchange is also being rebuilt, with new concrete ramps anticipated to open by late October 2024, weather permitting.

In Shreveport, nighttime work is ongoing to repair concrete panels near Pines Road and Monkhouse Drive interchanges, enhancing travel conditions outside the main reconstruction area.
Currently, the I-20 section from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive is closed to commercial motor vehicles due to narrow lanes. These vehicles are directed to use the I-220 detour.

The project is on track for completion in late 2025, contingent on weather conditions.
