BOSSIER CITY CITIZEN SCAMMED OUT OF $32,000: BOSSIER CITY POLICE CHIEF HAUGEN WARNS CITIZENS
BOSSIER CITY, La — Bossier City Police Chief Daniel Haugen wants to warn local citizens of a scam that targets elderly and unsuspecting victims.
Local Law Enforcement Authorities are alerting the public to a new scam in which victims are contacted by phone and informed they have won a large prize from Publishing Clearing House.
Victims receive a check that appears genuine and are given a contact name and phone number to establish communication. The scammers then instruct the victims to send money to cover taxes and other fees before depositing the check, claiming these payments are required by the FDIC.
THIS IS A SCAM!!!
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will never ask for money from citizens. Additionally, the purported prize is not legitimate.
In a recent local case, an unsuspecting victim lost over $32,000 to this scam.
The Bossier City Police Department urges citizens to remember: NEVER SEND MONEY TO GET MONEY. Protect your finances and remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes.
