Lake Charles, La — On July 8, 2024 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Vinton Welcome Center in reference to a body located in the water.
During the investigation, the CPSO Marine Division recovered the body of a young child. As the investigation continued detectives were able to identify the child as a 4 year old boy. Detectives were advised the child was last seen on Saturday, with his mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, 25, Lake Charles, and his 1 year old brother.
After further investigation, detectives issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) to other law enforcement agencies, and later issued a warrant for Jack’s arrest, signed by Judge Tony Fazzio in the amount of $300,000, charging her with failure to report a missing child.
She was located in Mississippi, without the 1 year old, by the Meridian Police Department and taken into custody.
CPSO continued the search for the 1 year old child, and this morning, July 9, at approximately 9:00 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a call in reference to a passerby observing a baby in a ditch on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 10. When deputies arrived, they were able to positively identify the child as the missing 1 year old.
“This is a tragic incident our detectives are currently investigating,” stated Sheriff Stitch Guillory.
“Fortunately, we were able to locate the 1 year old, who was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He is now safe and in the care of authorities. We understand the community’s concern and are committed to ensuring justice for the children involved. CPSO detectives are actively working to gather all the information and details surrounding this case and the death of the 4 year old. We will dedicate all necessary resources to ensure a thorough investigation. Our hearts go out to the family members of these two children.”
Detectives are continuing the investigation, and more charges are possible. The coroner will determine cause of death.
The 1 year old was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
CPSO Detective Willie Fontenot is the lead investigator on this case.
