SHREVEPORT, La — The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has identified 14-year-old Deidrick D. James as the victim of a fatal shooting at Bilberry Park in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
The incident occurred at 4:55p.m. in the 1900 block of Alabama Avenue at the Bilberry Community Park located in the Queensborough neighborhood.
Authorities say James was involved in a dispute over headphones with another male during a community gathering. After allegedly pushing the other male, James was shot in the chest.
He was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries at 5:22p.m.
Shreveport Police tells Louisiana Breaking News & Love Shreveport-Bossier that they detained one person and recovered a gun, but no arrest have been made at this time.
This marks the 38th homicide in Caddo Parish and the 35th in Shreveport for 2024.
An autopsy has been ordered.
